The research theme of Prof. Kuo is molecular microbiology, enzymology, and mechanism-based drug discovery, with working subjects of mechanistic approaches to discover anti-viral drugs and bacterial virulence factors and pathogenesis.

Since 2018, Prof. Kuo’s lab has been working in close cooperation with Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Kasetsart University on drug discovery against feline infectious peritonitis virus (FIPV) through the New Southbound Policy and the Featured Areas Research Center Program within the framework of the Higher Education Sprout Project by the Ministry of Education in Taiwan,
